People
The lab is under the direction of Dr. Doug Bishop, who joined the University in 1993. He has served as principal investigator for several research projects, including many receiving funding from the US Army and the National Science Foundation.
The Bishop Lab also collaborates with Dr. Phil Connell, a graduate of the department's radiation oncology residency program. Clinically, Dr. Connell focuses on sarcomas and mediastinal tumors, but he also remains active in cancer biology research.
Dr. Bishop supervises several other members of the lab, including research associates, technicians, postdoctoral scholars and students.
Research
The Bishop lab studies the mechanism of homologous repair, emphasizing the recombination proteins Dmc1 and Rad51 that are related to the bacterial repair protein RecA. The investigation considers how Dmc1's function is specialized for meiosis, how the functions of Rad51 and Dmc1 differ, and how these proteins interact.
